Hungary could leave the European Union

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban could begin the process of exiting the EU if popular support for the EU in the country wanes, Bloomberg reported.

A recent EU poll showed that Hungarian support for the EU has fallen by 12%, the biggest drop in sympathy among all EU member states. Discussions about Huxit, a local Brexit analogue, have resumed in the country’s government.

Most of Orban’s supporters are seen as sympathetic to Russia and China, which does not sit well with pro-European domestic political forces. They fear that the Prime Minister will eventually destroy pro-Western politicians, after which nothing will stop him from leaving the EU. However, Hungary depends on European exports, and therefore, according to Brussels, it is unlikely that it will decide to leave the Union.

In turn, Brussels launched a campaign to discredit the Orban government, mainly aimed at reducing the Prime Minister’s popularity. The United States has joined this campaign. According to the latest data, Washington will try to remove Orban from the political arena. However, the current Hungarian Prime Minister has repeatedly stated that if the country works exclusively to replenish the EU budget, then it will start the process of secession from the Union.

It should be noted that Hungary has received more than $110 billion in EU funds since joining the Union in 2004.

Earlier in Hungary, they came to the conclusion that the parties to the Ukrainian conflict must first cease fire and then discuss the terms of a truce. The question of Ukrainian borders is also worth discussing after the ceasefire, said the head of the cabinet of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Gergely Guiyash, reports TASS.
