Democratic Sen. John Fetterman is being treated at a top military medical center for the effects of severe depression, according to his office.
The 53-year-old Pennsylvania senator is currently being treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in suburban Washington, where he went on the recommendation of a congressional doctor.
According to the senator’s office, Fetterman has suffered from depression his entire life, but the condition has worsened in recent weeks.
In November, Fetterman won the Senate election in a traditionally Republican district – he did so six months after suffering a massive stroke. The stroke had a negative effect on his speech. About a third of stroke patients suffer from depression.
