Biden attacks the media, accusing them of spreading ‘conspiratorial lies’

Speaking at the White House Correspondents Association’s annual dinner on Saturday, Biden said “the truth is buried under lies,” an apparent reference to conspiracy theories that claimed his 2020 election victory was the result of widespread fraud.

“Lies told for profit and power. Lies of conspiracy and hate were told over and over again to create a cycle of anger, hate and even violence,” Biden said, according to Reuters.

He added that the department encouraged local authorities to ban the books and “obstruct the rule of law and deprive us of our rights and freedoms”.

Biden focused on what he described as “extremist journalism” and joked that if I described Fox News as “honest, truthful and telling the truth, I could be sued for defamation.”

Earlier this month, Fox Corp. agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Footing Systems in a case centered on allegations of Fox News Channel fraud in the 2020 presidential election in favor of Biden.

Alluding to former President Donald Trump, Biden sarcastically told the audience that comedian Roy Wood Jr., who also spoke at the dinner, had offered him $10 for not extending his speech.

“It’s the other way around,” Biden said, amid audience laughter, “the president is the one being offered the money to shut him up.”

On April 4, Trump was indicted on 34 criminal charges in connection with his $130,000 payment to silence a pornographic actress during his 2016 presidential campaign. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges.
