Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

For the love of 4 files.. America moves towards preventing a civil war in Sudan

A member of the American Democratic Party and political analyst who spoke to “Sky News Arabia” believes that the United States now sees a “great opportunity” to restore the map of old alliances between them and the countries of Africa, those who have been shaken. and changed in recent years after China and Russia lured those countries away from American influence.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has doubled his contacts with Sudanese Army Commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces Commander Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti”, as well as with the countries of the region and the African Union. This led to an agreement on a 3-day armistice to reduce the intensity of the fighting that has been going on since April 15 and then extend it for another 3 days, offering the possibility for countries to evacuate their nationals from Sudan.

ban “wagner”

A member of the US Democratic Party, Mahdi Afifi, to which current US President Joe Biden belongs, monitors the goals Washington is currently facing vis-à-vis Sudan:

Relations with Africa have been affected by the period of Donald Trump’s reign, then the Covid 19 (Corona) crisis, and recently Biden has been working to revitalize them, and he held a meeting with African leaders some years ago. month. Washington fears that the continuation of the conflict will facilitate the arrival of Russian “Wagner” forces in Sudan, after their expansion in certain neighboring countries.

Wagner is a Russian company that trains and distributes contract mercenaries to combat scenes, and since its emergence to support the Russian military in Ukraine in 2014, it contracts with governments in Africa, the Middle East and of Latin America, under the guise of fighting terrorism and supporting stability.

Washington and the European Union accuse Moscow of using “Wagner” as a tool to interfere and influence in these countries, and to exploit them economically.

Presentation of a naval base

US affairs expert Dr. Kamal Al-Zoghoul also refers to US calculations on what the Sudanese struggle will reflect on China and Iran’s influence in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.

He says: “It should be remembered that the Red Sea is part of a maritime surveillance plan to separate China and Russia from any influence on the African continent, and a monitoring station for Iranian movements. Now is an opportunity for Washington to increase its diplomatic presence. , and it can extend to a military presence in a sea base to deter conflicting parties in Sudan, if necessary.

In this, Al-Zaghoul points out that the presence of aircraft carriers and warships on the shores of Port Sudan “is a prelude to a naval base that could be permanent in the future. This mobile base secures a security exchange with the base in Djibouti. vertically towards Somalia to curb the (terrorist) youth movement, and the ability to control the Bab al-Mandab strait, and achieve horizontal penetration towards Khartoum to subdue the Russian Wagner, and at least collect intelligence information.

Map of alliances

These new interventions risk redrawing the alliances to restore their old map, according to Zaghoul: “We know that France and its interests were affected after the reduction of American forces during the time of President Trump, but the return of these forces in the region give France the opportunity to come back in force in the countries of the Sahel (Central and West Africa).

In this direction, the winning party in Sudan is expected to turn into a full alliance with America, away from Russia and China. As a result of the solution that the United States will lead, “whether through deterrence from the Red Sea, economic pressure or intensive diplomacy, many African countries will return to the alliance with America and the protection French”.

Regarding the fate of Sudan’s unity, the US affairs expert believes that Washington will support a unified Sudan, “because a divided Sudan does not serve its interests, but it wants to take the opportunity before a solution.”
