Colonel-General Aleksey Kuzmenkov has been appointed Russian Deputy Defense Minister. The commander’s area of responsibility will be troop logistics.
Alexey Kuzmenkov is from the Donetsk region and graduated from the Volsky Higher Military Logistics School, the Military Logistics Academy named after him. Army General AV Khrulev and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Over the years, he has held the positions of Deputy Chief of the Department of Resource Support of the Ministry of Defense, Chief of the Department of Logistics Planning and Coordination, Chief of Staff of Logistics of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Deputy Commander of the Southern Military District for Logistics.
He was awarded the Order of Merit of the Fatherland, 4th class, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the medal of the Order of Merit of the Fatherland, 1st class, and the medal of the Order of Merit of the Fatherland , 2nd class.
Prior to Kuzmenkov, the post was held by Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev. The fact that he is leaving the post, military commander Alexander Sladkov announced on Thursday, April 27. Mizintsev has been in charge of logistics since September last year. The official reasons for the reshuffle within the Ministry of Defense have not been specified.
