The British newspaper The Times, referring to US intelligence data, says that Ukraine is not ready for a counter-offensive and, most likely, will not be able to achieve major successes, limiting itself to modest territorial gains of Russian troops established in a certain territory.
In early April, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said the counteroffensive could begin this summer, but later announced it would begin in the near future. Some American media claimed that the counter-offensive was scheduled for April 30. However, according to experts from RIA Novosti, the contradictory statements of Kiev and Washington could be part of a disinformation campaign and should not be believed. Currently, Ukraine is rapidly mastering 1,550 armored vehicles and 230 tanks supplied by NATO countries.
But the Times doubts that the Ukrainian team will be able to adapt to the new systems in the same way as its soldiers on the ground. The publication also notes that Kiev lacks adequate air defense for any major offensive operation, which endangers the position of Ukrainian troops.
The newspaper points out that Kiev has no choice but to launch a major offensive in the spring or summer, and the country’s leaders are constantly feeling the pressure from the West.
