Modi’s Mann ki Baat – People’s program

– Published on:

When the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat, a public program started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, was completed on Sunday, there was a curiosity among the people that what does he say in this episode? He told in this program why he started this program on All India Radio. Prime Minister Modi said that when he was the Chief Minister in Gujarat, it was very easy to meet people, but when he became the Prime Minister, the security was increased, so it became difficult to meet people. He told that when he used to sit alone in the security cordon, he felt difficulty in meeting people. Modi said that it came to his mind that after all 50 years ago he had not left the house because he would sit alone after being cut off from people. That’s why he decided to connect with people through All India Radio.

It is true that through Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi talked about many national programs about which public curiosity was aroused and those programs also became popular like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, popularity of Khadi. Programs related to the importance and trend of coarse grains, but the people of the opposition have also been tightening their taunts on Mann Ki Baat. This shows that this program has become popular among the public as well.

The truth is that the way small and big BJP workers tried to make it a movement on behalf of the party to listen to Mann Ki Baat, this program of All India Radio got a lot of fame. At the government level also, the efforts made to implement the programs announced through Mann Ki Baat also gave popularity to this program. It is important in itself for Mann Ki Baat to be heard at the United Nations Headquarters.

However, we believe that after the advent of TV channels in the country, there was a big question mark on the relevance of All India Radio. The discussion even went so far that if Akashani is not needed then what is the need to continue it? The government was seriously considering that all categories of employees are employees of Prasar Bharati, so they should be absorbed in various programs, departments and centers of Doordarshan. But interestingly, after the Mann Ki Baat program, All India Radio flourished and from then till today, far from shutting it down, its commercial department also became very active because it started earning more money from advertisements. The bottom line is that in many ways the Mann Ki Baat program connected with the lives of the people and the Prime Minister also succeeded in connecting with the people. If this program of Mann Ki Baat continues like this, it will become a people’s program. (sp)
