Washington. President Joe Biden will host his Philippine counterpart Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the White House on Monday. The meeting of the two leaders is taking place at a time when Philippine ships are increasingly threatening the Chinese Navy in the South China Sea.
Marcos’ visit to Washington comes after the biggest military exercise between the two countries last week. The US and Philippine air forces will begin joint combat training on Monday for the first time since the 1990s. The Philippines has allowed the US to use four of its military bases this year.
Before leaving for Washington, Marcos said he was determined to strengthen ties with the US across a wide spectrum of areas that would not only address the concerns of our times but also serve our vital core interests. Marcos is the first President of the Philippines to visit the US in 10 years.
