And South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday that the two sides to the conflict in Sudan, Army Commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces Commander Muhammad Hamdan Daglo ( Hamidti), had agreed in principle to a 7-day truce.

According to the statement from South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the new truce begins on Thursday.

He added that the two sides had agreed to appoint representatives for the talks.

South Sudan is said to be among the countries hosting the talks and has offered to mediate in the conflict in Sudan.

The two sides have agreed to several truces over the past few days, but they have not been sufficiently respected.

Egyptian-American efforts

US and Egyptian Secretaries of State Anthony Blinken and Sameh Shoukry discussed efforts to end violence in Sudan by phone. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the appeal focused on efforts to achieve a prolonged and lasting ceasefire that would allow humanitarian aid to reach those inside who deserve it. from Sudan. The US Secretary reviewed US efforts in this regard in cooperation with members of the Tripartite and Quadruple Mechanisms concerned with Sudan. During the call, Shoukry emphasized the importance of non-interference from outside parties in fueling the conflict in Sudan. , in a manner that ensures the stabilization of the ceasefire and the protection of civilians whose lives are at risk as a result of the continuation of the armed conflict.
