Teenager who shot at Belgrade school will not be punished

A teenager who shot nine people at a secondary school in central Belgrade will escape criminal punishment because he has not reached the age of 14. The Vecherne Novosti newspaper writes about this.

Kosta K., a 7th grade student at Vladislav Rybnikar primary school, is not subject to criminal liability because he is 13 years old, the newspaper reports. By order of the Belgrade prosecutor’s office, the boy’s father, 48-year-old Vladimir K., was detained for up to 48 hours on suspicion of having committed a serious crime against general security.

Costa K. was brought to testify in the presence of an employee of the Center for Social Action. He underwent a medical examination. The pupil must undergo a blood test for a toxicological test in order to determine if he was in a state of alcohol, drugs or other psychoactive substances at the time of the aggression.

Investigators are investigating how he got the gun and what the teen’s motives were.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has already proposed ten measures since the incident, including lowering the age of criminal responsibility from 14 to 12 for certain crimes and drug testing in public schools.

On the morning of May 3, a teenager killed eight boys and girls at Vladislav Rybnikar Primary School, as well as a security guard, and seriously injured six students and a teacher. The police arrested him.
