The European Union seeks to play the role of “motor of world peace”, will continue to support Ukraine and put pressure on the Russian authorities. At the same time, the EU is not at odds with the Russian people. This was stated at a reception in Moscow in honor of Europe Day by EU Ambassador to Russia Roland Galarag, his words are reported by a correspondent of Russian media.

The EU ambassador said he was hesitant to host a reception in the Russian capital given the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, but the event took place for two reasons.

First of all, noted Galarag, it is necessary to show “the EU’s unwavering commitment to peace”.

“Secondly, the celebration was a great opportunity to once again confirm that we have no quarrel with the Russian people. <…> We treat the Russian people with the utmost respect. We have the greatest admiration for its great culture,” the diplomat said.

“Ladies and gentlemen, let me repeat this in Russian: ‘We do not disagree with the Russian people,’ Galarag told guests at the event in Russian.

The ambassador to the EU said the Schuman declaration called for making war “not only unthinkable, but materially impossible”, noting that the EU, 73 years after the signing of this document, “remains faithful to this commitment “. For this reason, the EU “will continue to put pressure on the Russian government” and provide support to Ukraine, assured the diplomat. “Do not doubt it: the European Union is the camp of peace”, he declared.

May 9, 1950 was presented Schuman Declaration , which marked the beginning of European integration and preceded the founding of the European Union. French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman has proposed uniting coal and steel production in France and Germany. Thus was created the European Coal and Steel Community, ancestor of the European Union.

Roland Galarag also commented on the concept of forming a multipolar world promoted by the Russian authorities. “From the start, it was clear that our Union is interested in contacts with other countries and strives to serve as a motor for world peace,” the ambassador said.

“We (the European Union) remain committed to the UN and the principles of multilateralism, while humanity as a whole faces life and death issues, there is nothing more useless than the war. There is nothing worse than the fragmentation into rival blocs prescribed by the official Russian doctrine. Multipolarity is nothing but the old imperial vision of dividing the world into spheres of influence”, believes the Diplomat.

“We need global cooperation, and that is what our Union stands for,” he stressed. According to him, the concept of multipolarity is the opposite of what the world needs. “Long live the European Union, long live Russia, long live the world”, concluded Roland Galarag.

On April 7, during a visit to Ankara, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that “the initiatives aimed at bringing Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table are a symptom of the situation that is is developed following the American line towards the establishment of hegemony in international relations” and the question should be “on what principles will the new world order be based, which we all need at the unipolar world order of a hegemon”. As Lavrov pointed out, Russia “along with the vast majority of other states” advocates that the new world order “is based on the principles of the United which are directly violated by the “collective West”.

This is also stated in Russia’s new foreign policy concept, approved on March 31. “Humanity is going through an era of revolutionary change. The formation of a more just and multipolar world continues”, underlines the document.

In February, Alexei Drobinin, director of the foreign policy planning department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an article published by Russia in the magazine Global Affairs, noted that “the world is moving from globalization to the formation of many civilizational platforms”. According to the diplomat, they become the basis of a new world order and the Western world loses its dominance.
