“Certainly, Ukraine has nothing to do with the attacks of the rallies against the Kremlin,” Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, told reporters.
“These statements by Russia should only be seen as an attempt to prepare the conditions ‘which could be used as a pretext’ for the purpose of launching a full-scale terrorist attack in Ukraine,” Podolyak added.
He believed that a similar attack, if carried out by Kyiv, “would not solve any military problem”, with Moscow continuing to control about twenty percent of Ukrainian territory.
“On the contrary, it will encourage Russia to take more extreme measures against our civilians,” added the presidential adviser.
And he felt that Moscow has “great fear of the start of Ukraine’s attacks on the front line, and is trying to somehow seize the initiative and divert attention”.
Russia announced earlier on Wednesday that it shot down two drones that targeted the presidential palace in an attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.
Ukraine has confirmed for months that it was preparing to launch a counterattack to regain control of the regions occupied by Moscow in the south and east of the country.
Kyiv has announced in recent days that the preparations for this attack were “almost completed”.
