Judiciary website Mizan Online said “the death sentence against Habib Shaab, known as Habib Asyud, the leader of the Struggle Movement, was carried out on Saturday morning.”
On March 12, the Iranian justice confirmed his death sentence for “corruption on earth, formation of a rebel group, planning and execution of numerous terrorist operations”.
Sweden said at the time that “the death penalty is an inhuman punishment that cannot be remedied, and Sweden, together with the rest of the European Union, condemns it in all circumstances”, according to the Swedish minister of Foreign Affairs, Tobias Billström.
Authorities said he was “the main person in the terrorist attack during the September 2018 military parade”, in which at least 25 people were killed and 70 injured, including a four-year-old child.
In September 2018, militants disguised as soldiers opened fire during an annual military parade in Ahvaz, the oil capital of Khuzestan.
He leads the people of the “Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz”, active in the province of Khuzestan, in the south-west of Iran, and the authorities consider him a “terrorist” organization and hold him to be responsible for attacks, including an explosion that killed around 30 people.
Shaab, who resided in Sweden, disappeared in October 2020 after traveling to Istanbul, before appearing after about a month in detention in Iran, according to a tape broadcast on state television at the time.
The trial of Habib Faragallah Shaab, nicknamed Habib Asiud, began in January 2022 on suspicion of “terrorism”, including “corruption on earth” and others.
On December 6, an Iranian court pronounced the death sentence for the fiftieth man, according to local media.
Sweden has sought to provide him with consular assistance, to no avail, as Iran does not recognize his dual nationality.
