Charles III was crowned King of the United Kingdom in Westminster Abbey during a solemn religious ceremony in front of about 2,300 invitees, eight months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, placed the crown on King Charles III’s head. Shortly before this, the King had sworn to serve his subjects and to protect the Church of England, of which he was supreme head. And chants of “God save the king” were heard inside and outside the church. Subsequently, his wife, Camilla, was crowned queen.
Prince William, the British heir to the throne, also took the oath of allegiance to his father, King Charles III, during the coronation ceremony of Charles as King of the United Kingdom on Saturday.
William said, kneeling in front of his 74-year-old father: “I am William, Prince of Wales. It is noteworthy that this ritual is an important part of the king’s coronation ceremony.
Earlier yesterday, Charles and his wife Camilla’s procession set off from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Cathedral, adjacent to Parliament, where the coronation ceremony takes place in the presence of representatives and leaders of more than 200 countries, in addition to elite representatives of the British people.
