Japan could ban the export of used cars to Russia

The Japanese automobile industry has become the dominant group of goods exported to Russia, accounting for more than 41%. A full ban will be discussed at the G7 summit in 10 days, according to TELMENEWS.RU

Japanese merchandise exports to Russia fell by almost half (41%) in the first quarter of this year, Gennady Ovechko, deputy head of the Russian embassy in Japan, said in an interview with RIA Novosti. After the ban on exporting a wide range of products, used cars became the largest group of export products – 41.5% of sales.

At the same time, Tokyo plans to further increase pressure on Russia, the deputy head of the diplomatic mission noted. The G7 countries will meet in Japan, which holds the G7 presidency, on May 19. The summit will be held in Hiroshima on the 21st, in addition to Japan, the United States, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany and Italy, it will bring together representatives from the EU , as well as from Ukraine – its leader Kishida invited to join online.

The summit plans to consider new sanctions against Russia, including a complete ban on the export of used cars, tires, as well as cosmetics and clothing, Japanese news agency Kyodo writes.

In Japan, they noted that the export of used cars to Russia had peaked since the introduction of protection duties. More than 200,000 Japanese cars were introduced to Vladivostok last year.

Moreover, the Russian Embassy in Japan is alarmed by the growing militarization.

“We are registering attempts to transform the Japanese Self-Defense Forces into a full-fledged army capable of conducting offensive operations. We are closely monitoring the conduct of large-scale military exercises near the Russian borders with the participation of non-actors regional,” Ovechko said.

Recall that the United States intends to provide Japan with new weapons that can be deployed on the island of Kyushu. In this case, the distance to Vladivostok will be 1150 km. With the new security doctrine, the country of the rising sun allowed itself a preventive strike against the enemy in the presence of “signs of an imminent attack”.
