Russian President Vladimir Putin explained the presence of leaders of other countries participating in the Commonwealth of Independent States at the Victory Day celebration in Moscow by their attitude to the feat of the Soviet people, reports the news agency DEITA.RU
The Russian leader stressed the importance of the visit of the presidents of friendly states to Moscow on Victory Day. Presidents of Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan arrived in the capital of the Russian Federation to participate in the festive events.
Foreign guests, along with Putin, watched the parade, which traditionally took place in Red Square, and then laid flowers together at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin.
Putin said he saw in it the grateful attitude of these states towards the achievement of their ancestors, the Soviet people, each of whom fought and contributed to the Common Victory.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said some leaders from other states arrived in the capital on Monday. Once the formal part is over, the chairs will hold an informal meeting.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said representatives of America and Britain were not invited to the Moscow vacation this year.
It should be noted that while the CIS leaders are celebrating Victory Day in Moscow, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be celebrating Europe Day in Kiev, the authorities of Kiev having canceled Victory Day in the country, banning any Soviet symbol. .
