‘Real war’ waged against Russia: Vladimir Putin

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin said at his country’s Victory Day parade on Moscow’s Red Square on Tuesday that a real war has been waged against Russia because of the unbridled ambitions of the West. Shortly before this, Russian forces attacked enemy positions in Ukraine with cruise missiles. Speaking at the annual parade commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, Putin said that today civilization is once again at a turning point. A real war has been waged against our Motherland.

Russia invaded its neighbor more than 14 months ago and Putin has since repeatedly cast the war in Ukraine as a proxy conflict with the West. The Kremlin’s official narrative of the war paints a picture of an existential battle with the West, which Moscow says is using Ukraine to destroy Russia, rewrite history and erode traditional values. This discourse of war has dominated the Russian state media as well.

In his speech, Putin insisted that the West’s unbridled ambitions and arrogance are to blame for the conflict. He welcomed the soldiers present in the parade who are fighting the war in Ukraine. At the end of his address, Putin said that for Russia. To our brave armed forces. to win. Russia launched a blistering attack on Ukraine with cruise missiles last night, hours before the Moscow parade began. This year the parade is taking place amid tight security arrangements. According to Ukraine’s air force, Russian forces fired 25 cruise missiles over Ukraine last night. He reported that the air defense system destroyed 23 of them.
