And the American New York Times reports that there is great dissatisfaction in Hong Kong with the large number of tourists who come from mainland China.
And this dissatisfaction is raised because most of the visitors come on inexpensive group tours which can cost as little as $175 for two full days.
Hong Kong traders say the arrival of low-spending tourists is not without its problems, as some visitors eat lunch, for example, sometimes standing in the street.
There are also those who talk about the noise of tourists and their chatter, especially in luxury residences, but they now complain about the crowding around them.
Prior to the onset of the Corona outbreak, people from mainland China accounted for 80% of those visiting Hong Kong Island.
The number of foreign tourists declined due to the impact of flights, while visitors from mainland China came by boat for a short time.
Group tourist trips usually include older people and they tend not to spend a lot of money when visiting a new place.
Commenting on the controversy, the self-governing city’s Tourism Minister Kevin Young said the crowded streets were a sign of economic growth.
In an effort to show that there is no local discomfort with tourists, the minister added in a TV interview that Hong Kongers are known to be welcoming, “and now is an opportunity to show that. again”.
