Every year May 12 is observed as International Nurses Day. To remember Florence Nightingale, the founder of the nursing discipline, the International Nurses Commission set International Nurses Day in the year 1912 on her birthday i.e. May 12. It aims to carry forward the human spirit of nightingale to not be afraid of difficulties, to be willing to give, to save lives and to have the courage of sacrifice.

Nursing is an important part of health care. It is of great importance in building a healthy China and improving the health status of citizens. Comprehensive nurses play an irreplaceable role in saving lives, treating disease, relieving pain and promoting health. Whether in routine medical care, or in combating serious infectious disease and natural disaster prevention, comprehensive nurses shoulder the responsibility with courage.

Nightingale said that nurses are angels without wings, who are the embodiment of honesty, piety and beauty. Nurses are as important as doctors. Nurses go ahead with doctors in epidemic prevention. According to statistics, the number of nurses in Wuhan’s support medical team at the beginning of the Kovid-19 epidemic outbreak is 28,600, which is about 70 percent of the team members. They do high-risk nursing jobs in close proximity to the virus. Many nurses are only a little over 20 years old, but young nurses can carry the burden of the country and society.

In recent years, the Chinese government pays great attention to nursing work. The interests of nurses and the development of the nursing profession were protected by issuing the Nurses Manual. According to statistics, now the number of registered nurses in China is more than 5 million. The number of nurses has been growing at an average rate of 8 percent over the past ten years. According to the plan, by the year 2025, the number of nurses in China will reach 5.5 million and the number of nurses will reach 3.8 in every 1000 people. The nursing capacity in China will be continuously upgraded and the high-quality development of nursing work will take place.
