“We highly appreciate Cuba’s continued support for the resolution that we submit each year for discussion in the United Nations General Assembly,” the ambassador stressed, Cuba’s position on the resolution “Combating the glorification of Nazism , neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance”.
The Russian ambassador also recalled that three Cubans volunteered to join the Red Army: the Aldo brothers and Jorge Vivo, as well as Enrique Vilar. Aldo died in 1943 defending Leningrad, and Enrique Vilar died in 1945 in Poland.

“We are fighting against the heirs of neo-fascist ideology even now. Including in the framework of a special military operation in Ukraine. political and military domination in the world by any means, as well as to maintain their hegemony, contrary to the natural course, history has failed,” Coronelli said.

In turn, the secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales Ojeda, also congratulated the public on the celebration. “It is only thanks to the unity, heroism and patriotism of the peoples who were part of the USSR, at the cost of more than 27 million lives, 60,000 destroyed cities and villages, as well as incalculable economic losses, which it was possible to first contain and then destroy the fascist military machine,” said a senior party official. He recalled that after the Victory, hopes arose all over the world for the formation of a fairer world order.

“These utopian dreams, unfortunately, were not destined to come true. The American imperialists, having grown stronger during the war, created NATO with their allies, launched the Cold War and began to threaten the whole world of ‘nuclear blackmail’ with the sole objective of achieving what fascism failed to achieve,” said Morales Ojeda.
“Today, against the background of the constant strengthening of Russia and China, history is repeating itself. The same methods are being used as before,” said the secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The memorial ceremony ended with the Cuban honor guard passing in solemn formation. After that, Raul Castro and Miguel Diaz-Canel, accompanied by the Russian Ambassador, toured the territory of the memorial complex, where the remains of Soviet soldiers who died in the performance of their international duties on Liberty Island are buried. The Army General and the President of the Republic laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, as well as at the monument to General Issa Pliev, who led a group of Soviet troops stationed in Cuba during the Caribbean crisis.
