The head of the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC), Lt. Gen. Daniel Carbler, said the US has not yet transferred the Iron Dome air defense system to Ukraine. . But upon receipt of such a request, the Pentagon has such a system in stock, the general said during a hearing before the US Senate Armed Services Committee.
The Army has a battery available for deployment on demand.
Carbler said.
In total, the ground forces have two Iron Dome systems, one is installing new equipment, and the other is ready for transfer. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy John Plumb added in the same hearing that he did not know if such systems were being offered to Ukraine.
The Iron Dome system has proven to be one of the most effective means of destroying short-range missiles. Last June, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgeny Korniychuk said Kyiv wanted to buy it from Israel.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Ukraine has everything it needs for a successful counteroffensive. In particular, we are talking about a new $1.2 billion military assistance program, which includes munitions, air defense systems and maintenance support for military equipment.
