The Palestinian News Agency quoted eyewitnesses as saying that large Israeli army forces stormed the town of Qabatiya and attacked a number of citizens’ homes in the western neighborhood, ransacked them and altered their content.
Eyewitnesses added that Israeli forces targeted a vehicle with bullets in one of the town’s streets, killing two young men and injuring a third.
On Tuesday, the White House urged containing the escalation in Gaza, while defending Israel’s right to target militants in the Strip.
“We call on all parties to contain the escalation,” a National Security Council spokesman said, referring to reports that civilians were “tragically” killed in an Israeli military operation.
But the spokesman stressed the US’ “unwavering” commitment to Israel, adding: “Israel has the right to protect itself and its people from indiscriminate missile attacks by terrorist groups.”
On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had instructed the Defense Minister to prepare for all escalation scenarios on various fronts.
The Israeli army announced the targeting of a naval site belonging to the Al-Quds Brigades, in the west of the central region of the Gaza Strip.
And Israeli Channel 12 quoted the Israeli cabinet as saying, “There may be a response from Lebanon, and we will not sit idly by on this.
The channel confirmed that “the government has authorized Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to make decisions on additional levels of response.”
