Islamabad: Following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, the party’s supporters across the country have taken to the streets and staged violent uprisings and riots, causing huge loss of life and property. This has been said in the media reports. A TV reported that following Khan’s arrest on Tuesday, protesters pelted stones and torched vehicles, leading to suspension of traffic and shopkeepers closing their shops. Over 150 officers and staff were injured in the violent incidents across Punjab province.
At least 63 police officers and personnel were injured in Lahore, 29 in Rawalpindi, 25 in Faisalabad and 13 in Gujranwala. Currently, the authorities are working to trace and arrest all the persons involved in the incidents. The situation in Peshawar was particularly dire. The city of flowers turned into a battlefield. In one incident near Firdaus Chowk, angry party workers looted a store selling arms. Its footage quickly went viral on various social media.
In the video, the activists can be seen carrying pistols and guns and other weapons. The unrest in different areas has resulted in four deaths while 41 others have been injured. The protesters forcibly entered the premises of Radio Pakistan and set fire to the newsroom and other parts of the building and vehicles parked nearby. The protesters also breached the Red Zone in Islamabad, following which the police had to respond with gunfire. This resulted in an uproar. Several vehicles including an ambulance were set on fire.
