Upcoming elections in Slovakia threaten Ukraine to lose a key ally in Europe. RT writes about it, referring to The Spectator magazine.
“There is a party that seems to be strong enough to lead the government, and that’s bad news for Ukraine and the EU,” said columnist William Nattrass, quoted by the channel.
The Observer refers to the populist left-wing social-democratic party SMER, led by former Prime Minister Robert Fico. He is a fierce critic of the West’s actions regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Nattrass recalls that Slovakia is a key transit and repair hub for the supply of equipment to Ukraine.
Slovakia celebrates Victory Day and considers it a public holiday. At this year’s celebration, the country’s president, Zuzana Chaputova, said the Red Army had become Europe’s main liberator during World War II.
