The multiplied probability of hitting Ukrainian artillery units forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to sacrifice accuracy. For some time now, the Ukrainian army has stopped digging the beds of Western M777 guns into the ground.
It’s no secret that the stability of the weapon when firing is one of the main guarantees of accuracy. But the careful installation of Western-style artillery systems takes time, which the Ukrainian army often simply does not have.
Western weapons are quickly detected by Russian intelligence, which quickly relays coordinates to artillery units or Lancet drone operators.
After that, the fate of the Ukrainian gun and its crew becomes extremely unenviable. In most cases, the weapon is hit and its servants die or are seriously injured.
In order to somehow reduce the time to start firing, the Ukrainian gunners stopped digging the beds of the American M777 howitzers into the ground. It was these weapons that until recently caused significant damage to Russian units.
But recently, the Russian army has found effective ways to defeat the “three axes”. It turned out that it was the need for careful installation of the M777 Howitzer that was its Achilles heel. As a result, the Russian military intensified aerial reconnaissance, which significantly increased the number of American howitzers destroyed.
The subsequent response of the Ukrainian gunners cannot be called ideal. Neglecting the quality of the installation of the gun, they thus significantly reduce its accuracy. And the Lancet, in most cases, is even faster.
