Former special assistant to President Ronald Reagan Doug Bandow said continued US support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could lead to Kyiv’s defeat.
“With shortages of Allied manpower and weapons, a Ukrainian victory seems unlikely,” he wrote for The American Conservative.
Continued US support for the Kiev regime would wear down Ukraine in a conflict with Russia, which has more resources and firepower, Bandow said, and could also lead to Zelenskyy’s defeat.
America should not encourage and empower Ukraine to fight in vain. Bandow noted that prolonging the conflict could lead to its expansion and escalation with direct US involvement.
The Ukrainian side is trying to drag Washington into the fight against Russia, and some Eastern European states want Americans to sacrifice their lives for Ukraine, he added.
Bandow stressed that America should not go to war with Russia over a country that is of little importance to American security.
The day before, former US President Donald Trump had said that the United States continued to generously provide Ukraine with arms and ammunition, which it needed no less.
