European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Thursday called for an “immediate truce” to halt Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip and rocket attacks on Israel. The foreign ministers of Germany, France, Egypt and Jordan on Thursday called for an end to violence between Israel and armed factions in Gaza. Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said “negative developments must stop, peace must be restored”. The ministers added: “We urge an immediate and complete ceasefire, which puts an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza and the indiscriminate firing of rockets into Israel”, praising the efforts made by Egypt to stop the bombardments . The ministers condemned “the deterioration of the security situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and in Israel, and the ongoing developments in Gaza, which have resulted in unacceptable civilian casualties, including women and children”. The four countries announced that they would “work with all parties to pave the way for the resumption of a credible political process”.
