The Israeli army and the Islamic Jihad movement announced that the leader of the movement, Ahmed Abu Daqqa, had been killed in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip on Thursday.
Adraei wrote on his personal Facebook account, commenting on the video: “This is how the escape route of the so-called Ahmed Abu Daqqa, deputy in charge of the Islamic Jihad missile unit, was detected and monitored. until he was targeted.”
Adraei said Abu Daqqa was watched Wednesday night through an overhead room, walking alone, to an apartment to hide.
Adraei said: “The person named Abu Daqqa has been unmasked, allowing him to continue to follow him and target him at the appropriate time and place, as there have been other opportunities to target him in the past, but the presence of civilians next to him prevented this from being carried out.”
The video showed aerial footage of a person walking through an area, while a red circle was placed over him.
The death of Abu Daqqa
An IDF statement said: “In a joint operation by the army and the General Security Service (Shin Bet), Ahmed Abu Daqqa, deputy commander of the Islamic Jihad missile unit, who played a central role in firing rockets into Israel, has been eliminated.”
As Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Twitter: “In a joint operation by the Israeli army and the General Security Service, we eliminated Ahmed Abu Daqqa, who was responsible for the recent missile attacks on the State of Israel, a short time ago.”
On Thursday, Israel carried out airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, from which a new batch of missiles were launched, after targeting another leader of the Islamic Jihad movement overnight, who was killed along with two others.
Early Thursday, Israeli airstrikes killed the head of the Al-Quds Brigades missile unit, Ali Ghali.
On Thursday, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, Egypt and Jordan called for an end to the violence between Israel and the armed factions in Gaza, after 3 days of exchanges of fire.
