Congress getting a clear majority in the Karnataka Assembly is definitely a big achievement for PATA. The poor performance of Bharatiya Janata Party in this election makes it clear that the Congress has made a dent in its traditional votes.

In fact, the advantage that the Congress has got is not only because of the weakness of the BJP. In this success, he has also got positive votes. This means that the allegations of corruption on the BJP, weak PATA organization in the state, desertion of senior leaders of the state, etc. are included, as well as the voters expressed their trust in the guarantees given by the Congress which it had given in its manifesto.

The truth is that when there was a single rule of Congress in the whole country, its governments used to be formed in the states as well, but Ramvrishna Hegde of Janata Pata broke this practice. In 1980, under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, the Congress returned to power, but in 1982 the Janata Party won the state assembly. In this way, now no PATA can win re-election in Karnataka. This practice is good for democracy. The dissatisfaction of the public is enough to make the politicians realize that the Pata who will work for the welfare of the people will be successful in gaining power.

This election has established one more fact that wherever Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned, BJP remained ahead even in the huge wave of Congress. The Congress has lagged behind the BJP in Greater Bengaluru and Coastal Karnataka. But the results have also proved that it is difficult for PATA to win elections on the strength of Prime Minister Modi alone in states where BJP’s local units are not strong or there is no good coordination among them.

With this result, it will definitely be a challenge for the BJP to win seats equal to 2019 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but it is often seen that the results of the Lok Sabha are completely different from the assembly elections. When the Lok Sabha elections were held in 1977, the Congress was badly defeated in the whole of North India, but it got success in the Karnataka assembly elections. Devraj Ars became the Chief Minister. Similarly, in 2008, the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the assembly elections and also formed the government, but it did not get the same number of seats in the Lok Sabha, while the Congress won more seats than it had in the assembly. Again in 2013 Congress got a clear majority in the assembly but in 2014 BJP captured most of the Lok Sabha seats in the state.

However, after the victory in the Karnataka elections, the Congress has got a new political energy and will participate in the coming elections with more enthusiasm. One more thing has become clear from this result that now the major battles in Karnataka have been reduced between the two national parties i.e. Congress and BJP. Janata Dal (S)’s base has shrunk.

Due to this, his role of deciding the power equation after the elections has also ended. It is not that regional parties do not play an important role in development and public welfare work, but it is also true that at some places the mandate is fragmented due to regional parties and democracy is also troubled due to their role. At least this has been happening in Karnataka. (sp)
