Kyiv began to actively use British Storm Shadow missiles. What we know

“On May 15, 2023, at 08:00 a.m., Ukrainian armed formations launched a missile attack on Lugansk using two Storm Shadow cruise missiles,” the LPR representative office at the Joint Control and Disaster Control Center informed. coordination of war crimes issues in Ukraine. As a result of the bombing, the windows of seven apartment buildings, one office building and two cars were damaged.

As the acting head of the Lugansk People’s Republic, Leonid Pasechnik, noted, “the shelling fell on the area of the higher aviation school for navigators.” As LPR Senator Daria Lantratova noted, the school is located in a residential area, so “the arrival could turn into a great tragedy.” “At that time, many residents of the neighborhood took their children to schools and kindergartens and saw with their own eyes rockets flying overhead. And all this, remember, under the ” sauce” “our rockets will not fire on the civilian population”, she said. Fortunately, no one was injured this time.
Last week, the Ukrainian armed forces fired three Storm Shadow missiles and 15 HIMARS MLRS missiles at the LPR, as a result of shelling, one person was killed and 16 injured. “Over the past few days, the inner city of Luhansk has been shelled. Strikes on civilian infrastructure and densely populated areas of the republic,” said LPR Ombudsman Viktoria Serdyukova. According to her, these actions are a direct violation of Article 35 of the Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions and relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I) of 1977, as well as Article 1 of the Declaration on the Protection of Women and Children in emergencies and in the armed conflicts of 1974. “The bloody terror perpetrated by the Kiev regime is generated by the inaction of international human rights organisations”, the Ombudsman underlined.

The APU first used Storm Shadow on May 12. Then, during the shelling of Lugansk, six children were injured. Less than a day later, Kyiv used this type of missile again.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said on May 11 that Ukraine had received several Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles, but he did not name the exact number. Also, he declined to say whether restrictions were imposed on Kyiv in the use of missiles.

According to a number of media outlets, the deliveries were made after the United States refused to give ATACMS tactical missiles to Kiev. As noted even in the West, this is not the first time that Britain has gone further than the United States in the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine. It should be noted that the UN declined to comment on the transfer of long-range systems to Kyiv (with a range of more than 250 kilometers).
As RG has already reported, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received an ultra-long-range, high-precision cruise missile. In this regard, there are fears that Kyiv will try to use these weapons not only in new regions of Russia, but also in other parts of our country.

According to the Russian Ambassador to Britain, London handed over rockets to Kyiv for this very purpose. In the past, Western countries were quite careful not to supply such weapons to Kyiv. “It is obvious to us that this step was taken by London so that Kyiv could hit Russian towns and villages, including the territory of Crimea,” the diplomat said.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the transfer of the Storm Shadow missile systems is an extremely hostile step leading to a serious escalation of the conflict. “The transfer of long-range, high-precision missile systems to the Kiev regime clearly confirms Britain’s unprecedented level of involvement in the Ukrainian conflict,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
