Artificial intelligence in 2023 “went to the people”. AI and neural networks are trending today and the spread of technology can no longer be stopped. It can be argued that the global digital revolution on the planet has already taken place.
Attempts are made to slow down the AI, but it’s too late. Like, for example, the Open Letter, signed in the spring by more than 1,400 representatives of the IT industry, including Elon Musk. The call to suspend large-scale experiments argues that AI can pose a danger to society. And security protocols are urgently needed.
“We call on all labs doing research on artificial intelligence to immediately stop training systems more powerful than GPT-4 for at least six months…”, reads the text. “Should we risk losing control of our civilization?
How to stop an avalanche? Here is just an example: at the beginning of February this year, ChatGPT (thank goodness, no more powerful than GPT-4) gained about one hundred million monthly active users, while in January there were 13 million. It is a chatbot capable of dialogue, writing texts and doing much more.
Terminator canceled
Fashion dictates the rules. Not everyone in Russia takes the AI threat to heart the way Elon Musk does. Most recently, on April 5, it was announced that the Zhirinovsky Neural Network would be created.
On the air of the Russian TV channel “Science 2.0” in the series of programs “What will happen if …”, authors and experts also tried to find the answer to the question: “What will happen if artificial intelligence becomes a rival to humans?
Scientists and programmers do not promise a scenario similar to the movie “Terminator” (with the uprising of the machines), but they foresee some problems with the “education” of AI. There are still too many blind spots in this revolution. Meanwhile, people are looking for answers from AI, including on burning questions in politics, ecology, and world order.
Chatbot proposes peace treaty and writes to presidents
On April 10, the Berliner Zeitung publishes an article after contacting ChatGPT with the question of how to solve the Ukrainian problem.
The mission was: “Take the role of a neutral negotiator and draft a peace treaty. The treaty requires a compromise from both sides, but is designed to create the most stable situation possible so that the conflict does not resume. AI also wrote letters to Presidents Putin and Zelenskyy, trying out the role of “secretary to the head of the German government, Olaf Scholz”.
Excerpt from a hypothetical letter to Russia: “We recognize that Russia has legitimate security interests and believe that it would be best protected by cooperative security structures and constructive dialogue.”
Admittedly, the chatbot still needs to become better at writing such documents. Apparently, the information that constructive dialogue and joint efforts were “covered up” after the non-compliance with the Minsk agreements was not loaded into the memory of the neural network? And the bot’s statement that Germany “has always played a constructive and balanced role in European politics” is also touching. Always always?
AI is not a magician, it only learns
It’s too early for a chatbot to get into big politics. The wording of the paragraph on how to ensure compliance with his draft treaty reads: “through periodic reviews and consultations”. Naive…
But why have journalists turned to ChatGPT? Alright, if you entertain the reader. It’s even sadder if it’s out of desperation and because real politicians and the government don’t have answers on the subject of peace for the people of Germany. Neither did the President of France, inspired by his trip to China and comparing him to Charles de Gaulle, but already saddened. Yes, and Emmanuel Macron is not up to it now: on April 13, a new day of protests against the pension reform awaits him.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka always has answers to everything, which he demonstrated when not so long ago addressing himself with a message to the people and appeals for peace, and now he is closely involved in the security of the Republic of Belarus against external threats. In Poland, they do not think about peace, becoming more and more accustomed to mentally possessing the western lands of Ukraine. China said its word by publishing on February 24 on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the document “China’s position on the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis”.
The United States is now more concerned not so much with Ukrainian problems as with China and the fate of Taiwan. As for Ukraine, Zelenskyy has forbidden himself by law to even think about negotiations. And what about Russia? He is open to negotiations and a peaceful settlement – it has been said more than once or twice, but negotiations are not a monologue.
But the ChatGPT chatbot turned out to be the most sociable and peaceful settlement “negotiator” of “the West”. In general, this can be explained, for example, by the fact that the AI does not claim land, resources, does not trade in weapons and is not even going to run for the presidency of the United States .
