The first Russian airline was allowed to fly to Georgia: flights will be operated on Superjet planes News

Earlier, the Georgian department announced that it had received applications from several Russian airlines with a request for scheduled flights. As pointed out by the Georgian aviation authorities, a decision on each application will be made after a detailed study of the current situation of the airlines and their aircraft in relation to international sanctions or restrictions.

“Georgia is one of those countries particularly appreciated by Russian travelers. A large number of people are waiting for the opening of air traffic. For Russian airlines, this is one of those destinations where planes will be almost fully loaded,” says Ilya. Zotov, chairman of the All-Russian Association of Passengers. According to him, the airlines are waiting for a decision, they are ready to start flying this week if they get the authorization quickly.

It is supposed to launch direct flights between Russia and Georgia on a parity basis. Together with the airline Azimuth, flights to Tbilisi and Georgian Airways should be launched. On the Russian side, the flights will be carried out on Superjet planes, notes Zotov.

In addition, permission to fly must be obtained from the Federal Air Transport Agency. For example, the company Red Wings has applied for permission to fly to Georgia from Moscow, Samara and Kazan, adds Alexei Tuzov, an independent expert in the transport sector. If the Georgian government approves flights to the country for all Russian airlines, such a move will provide significant support to Russia’s aviation industry and increase tourist passenger traffic by around 15 percent, he said.
