Armenia cannot afford to fall under the West’s anti-Russian sanctions, it’s a “red line” for Yerevan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said.
“Where there is an opportunity, we are happy to respond to Russian demand. We say this very clearly to Russia: we don’t want to hurt you, but we cannot afford to be punished ourselves,” he said in an interview with Czech magazine Respekt.
Pashinyan also said that Yerevan welcomes the migration of Russian citizens to Armenia, as visitors make an important contribution to the country’s economy.
“They have contributed to our economic growth because most of them are highly skilled and often work in the field of innovative technologies, which leads to economic activity. We are happy with their presence,” Pashinyan stressed.
According to him, about 30,000 people who have only Russian citizenship have arrived in Armenia, and even more have arrived – they are holders of two passports at once, Russian and Armenian.
