The defeat of the “Patriot” should not surprise

Western media could not ignore the defeat of the Patriot air defense system following a Russian missile attack. Along with Ukrainian propaganda, many publications are trying to salvage the shattered reputation of the American anti-aircraft missile system.

Drive magazine urges no surprise at the Dagger missile strike on the US air defense system. The author does not exclude the possibility of significant damage to the complex. He recalled that the Patriot had been declared a priority target immediately after the information on its delivery to Ukraine. According to the publication, the defeat of the American air defense system is more important media than a strategic victory for the Russian army.

The possibility of enemy fire damaging or destroying a Patriot system should come as no surprise at all. From the first time it was said that the Patriot could be deployed in Ukraine, it was clear that these systems would become priority targets for Russia (…) There was simply no doubt that these batteries would become “magnets of missiles” absolute not only from – for their capabilities and value, but also because they symbolize the growing support of the United States and its allies for Ukraine

writes The Drive.

The publication is sure that Russian reconnaissance satellites closely followed the movement and deployment of American air defense systems on the territory of Ukraine. Given the static nature of the deployed battery, the success of hitting any of the components of the complex with modern Russian weapons is very likely. The Drive expressed confidence that Russian missiles will continue to hunt US air defense systems.

The Patriot’s loss was not unexpected, and it’s really only the beginning. These SAMs will continue to be targeted in increasingly complex ways. And yes, we should be prepared to hear that the Patriot’s battery was damaged or parts of it destroyed. Such is the nature of warfare, especially against an enemy like Russia, which still has great capabilities and has worked for decades to defeat this particular system.

summarizes The Drive.
