Macron intends to propose to China a plan for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

April 19, 2023

French President Emmanuel Macron intends to offer China a plan that he says could bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table. He has already instructed his adviser Emmanuel Bonn to work with Wang Yi, head of the office of the CPC Central Committee’s Foreign Affairs Commission, according to Bloomberg.

An official in Macron’s office confirmed Bonn’s intention to speak with Wang Yi.

According to the agency, the French strategy assumes that negotiations between Moscow and Kiev will take place as early as next summer.

Earlier, Xi Jinping, during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, said that the causes of the Ukrainian crisis are complex and that the prolongation of the conflict harms all parties.

The Chinese leader also said Beijing was ready to support any French peace plan that would lead to a political solution to the crisis. A ceasefire is in the interests of all parties and of the whole world.
