Kissinger urged to accept Ukraine into NATO to contain it and secure Europe

Ukraine’s admission to NATO will allow European countries to exercise control over it and protect Europe as a whole from the ill-considered actions of the Ukrainian government. This view was expressed by former Secretary of State and former national security adviser to United States President Henry Kissinger in an interview with The Economist.

The politician believes that not only Kiev, but also Moscow are interested in Ukraine’s entry into the alliance, as this would be a guarantee that the Ukrainian authorities would not use military means to resolve territorial disputes in the coming. According to Kissinger, if the special operation ends with the loss of part of the Russian positions and the preservation of the others, none of the parties to the conflict will be satisfied. This can predetermine the start of a new confrontation.

“What the Europeans are saying now about Ukraine’s prospects for entering the alliance, in my opinion, is incredibly dangerous. Because the Europeans say: “We don’t want them in NATO because they are too risky”. And so we arm them to hell and give them the most advanced weapons. Now we have armed Ukraine to such an extent that it will eventually become the best armed country in Europe with the most strategically inexperienced leaders,” the former US secretary of state said.

He also noted that Ukraine’s initiative to join the military bloc is justified at least by the fact that Kiev will lose the ability to independently resolve issues related to territorial claims.

In the same interview, Kissinger called the United States and China the main threat to the existence of humanity. According to him, much depends on the situation with Taiwan.
