Moscow, Russia – Official Moscow coordinates the format of the work of Russian banks in Cuba and switches to project settlements in rubles. This statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Dmitry Chernychenko at the opening of a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Russian-Cuban trade and economic cooperation.
“We are coordinating the format of the work of Russian banks in Cuba, we are moving to project settlements in rubles,” said RIA Novosti citing Chernychenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that Cuba had recently started accepting national Mir cards at ATMs. Chernyshenko added that the next step would be the possibility of paying with household plastic in bars and restaurants.
Last May, Dmitry Chernyshenko paid a working visit to Cuba. A representative delegation flew to the island with him. Chernyshenko said relations between Moscow and Havana are of historical importance and are not subject to political conjuncture. According to him, Russia intends to help the Cuban economy reach a decent level.
