Mikhail Tsivin, suspected of embezzling the legacy of actor Alexei Batalov, asked the President of the Russian Federation to release his wife Natalia Drozhzhina from any responsibility. This was announced after a meeting in the Zamoskvoretsky court by social activist Alexei Lobarev.

“I liked that he stood up for Drozhzhina, asked to be sent for further consideration, appealed to the president in defense of his wife. As a man he didn’t, but he stood up for his wife,” he said.

Lobarev noted that this was the penultimate meeting, the verdict in the case will be announced on May 26.

The proceedings in the case of embezzlement of property of People’s Artist of the USSR Alexei Batalov have been ongoing since 2020. Mikhail Tsivin and his wife Natalia Drozhzhina are charged with Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Mass Fraud”). According to investigators, Tsivin and Drozhzhina entered into the confidence of the widow of Alexei Batalov, as well as his youngest daughter. They took them in as dependents, helped them clean and buy food, and provided other forms of assistance. After that, the defendants fraudulently issued powers of attorney for the disposal of victims’ funds and in 2019-2020 withdrew almost all of their savings in the amount of 30 million rubles from their accounts, and also re-registered property real estate.

The representative of the prosecution requested that Drozhzhina be sentenced to a fine of 200,000 rubles and a prison term of six years. The prosecutor demands that Tsivin be sentenced to seven years in prison with a fine of 400,000 rubles.
