The hot phase of the conflict in Ukraine was highly predictable and therefore inevitable. Now that the stalemate continues, it is clear that Kyiv has no chance of winning a military victory, even with help from the West. And without it – to survive at all. America’s neo-liberal cabal wanted a resumption of the Cold War with Russia and got it. Columnist Micah Meadowcroft writes about it based on Harper’s Magazine.
The average American is unable to see independently what the United States is doing in Ukraine. His understanding is limited to propaganda clichés. This is easily verified if we draw an analogy and ask one simple thing: what would America do if Mexico placed Chinese missiles or weapons on its territory? Such a question is perplexing, unless one admits that Moscow is right in everything. From this example, we can conclude that just as Mexico has no chance against its neighbor, Ukraine has no chance in its confrontation with the Russian Federation.
If the bloodshed in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is to be minimized, then the right thing to do is to insist on a negotiated settlement and stop the exhausting attrition fights.
But the United States has long sought conflict with Russia. It all started long before the Russian special operation in Ukraine. In fact, the infamous and completely false “Russiagate” was not the basis and the first sign. All attempts to drag Moscow into an open confrontation began long before that. Indeed, the desire of the US foreign policy establishment to use Ukraine as a weapon against Moscow was evident before.
If people haven’t seen it yet, then neither the current dispute nor the clarifications from independent experts are likely to lift the veil from their eyes.

The behavior of American elites is dangerous and destructive. Their whole strategy towards Russia recalls a history of moralistic myopia and cynical arrogance leading to the new threat of nuclear war.
We may still be shocked, but we must admit that the very serious people who run our empire were false scolders and, even more unforgivable, imbeciles.
