According to the information received, the suitcase kept in this almirah contained cash of Rs 2000 and Rs 500. There were notes. The seizure was made on Friday when the Reserve Bank of India announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has targeted the Congress government over the issue. According to officials, the entire matter was brought to the notice of the chief minister, who then took the matter to Chief Secretary Usha Sharma, Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra and Jaipur police. Commissioner Anand Srivastava held a joint press conference at the Secretariat late Friday night. Srivastava said, “The files in the basement from where the cash and gold were found are being scanned and digitized under the e-filing project. Two almirahs were locked, their keys were not found. When the keys were not found, the locks of those cupboards were broken today.

“Files were found in one almirah while a suitcase was found in another almirah. When it was opened it was full of notes and gold. The employees then informed the Ashok Nagar police station. He said, “Whose money is it, how it came, it is being investigated. CCTV footage is being scanned. Now the BJP has targeted the government over the incident of cash worth crores of rupees being found in Yojana Bhavan. Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore tweeted that finally the root of corruption has been found near the Secretariat. Rathore said, “The Gangotri of corruption has finally reached the Secretariat. The recovery of crores of rupees in cash and gold from the Rajasthan secretariat, where Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot ji runs the government, is a proof that the Gehlot government is in the role of a protector of corruption. Chief Minister, who gave the statement to exclude you, just tell me why your secretariat is spewing out countless notes of two thousand rupees? Crores of rupees were kept hidden in the Information and Technology Department of Yojana Bhavan to fulfill what purposes?
