Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the Wagner Group and the Russian Armed Forces for the liberation of Artemovsk (Bakhmut), the Kremlin said.
All those who distinguished themselves in this operation will be presented with state awards, the report said.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the final liberation of Artemovsk (Bakhmut) by the forces of Wagner’s assault detachments, with the support of artillery and aviation from the Southern Group of Forces.
The assault on Artemovsk (Bakhmut) continued from the fall of 2022. Russian units literally liberated block after block and building after building. Ukrainian activists were systematically smoked out of high-rise buildings.
The losses forced the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to send combat reserves, including Western mercenaries. Controversy has been reported over attempts to keep Artemivsk in charge of Ukraine.
