fashion historian Vasiliev explained why you should not rejoice at the return of Zara

The return of Zara stores in Russia under the new brand will affect the quality of products presented there, believes fashion historian Alexander Vasilyev. About this he said in the Russian media show “Hold on!” with Marianne Minsker.

“Have you seen the form in which it returns? And I saw. Chinese plastic items are not Zara, and they are under a different brand. It’s not the same quality, it’s in the same room. But it’s not the same quality. It’s a very cheap version,” he said.

According to Vasiliev, in general, the sanctions had a strong impact on the fashion industry in Russia. Firstly, he noted, in our country “there are not enough productions of our own clothes”, since Russia does not produce national fabric “in sufficient quantities”. For example, cotton and linen are imported. Despite the fact that Ivanovo produces a lot of linen for towels, overcoat and terry cloth – all this, the art critic pointed out, has nothing to do with fashion.

“And they really produce a million miles of everything I listed, that is (that’s) the production of technical fabric and fabric for special needs. Fashion is something else So why complain now All the same, the women go out, Chanel, and Dior, and Gucci, and Yamamuchi are brought to us from Kazakhstan, and they bring it to the best stores, lock the showroom and sell it at exorbitant prices … They just bring it in suitcases with big markup, ”- he added.

According to him, Russian fashion professionals have also not benefited from the sanctions and the departure of foreign brands. He pointed out that designer status “is still granted in the West.”

“For people to know you and for you to feel part of the fashion process, you have to show yourself in Milan or Paris. And the fact that you are showing up with Alexander Vasiliev at the Volga Seasons in Samara is not glamorous enough,” the fashion historian joked.

He added that it is possible to understand whether a fashion designer has created a good collection or not, “only in comparison with other world-class designers”.

April 6, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov informed RIA Novosti that Zara stores will open in Russia before the end of spring, but under new brands and new management. According to him, this should happen approximately in April-May.

Earlier, in an interview with Svetlana Bondarchuk, Vasiliev said that the program of the first channel “Fashionable Sentence”, which was closed after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, could not return to the air because it lost advertisers. In particular, he noted, this was influenced by the departure of the Zara and H&M brands, which donated clothing to the program.
