The Kremlin says Russia opposes freezing the conflict in Ukraine

October 2, 2025

Press Secretary to the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Russia opposes freezing the conflict in Ukraine.

“Russia is only considering the possibility of carrying out a special military operation,” he said.

Peskov stressed that the tasks of the special operation are to secure the interests of Russia, as well as to achieve the goals facing the country with the help of the SVO or other available means.

Earlier, a member of the lower house of the Russian parliament, Lieutenant General Viktor Sobolev, said that freezing the conflict in Ukraine was not in Russia’s interest.

It has also been reported that the United States is preparing for a long-term freeze scenario in the Ukrainian conflict, which could last for years or even decades.
