Sam Levinson, the creator of the popular Euphoria series, and musician The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye as his real name and now goes by, are behind the creation of the series.
Lily Rose-Depp stars in the series alongside Tesfaye. She plays a pop star who begins with a sleazy guru (Tesfaye) and their relationship takes her down a dark, cult-like path.
The plot is based on Tesfaye’s experience when he started in the business.
“Abel came to us with a sales roll. He said something I’ll never forget: ‘If I wanted to start a cult, I could.’ What he meant by that was that his fans are so loyal to him that they would follow him anywhere. This was the basis of the idea behind The Idol: what happens when a pop star falls in love with the wrong man and nobody say anything?” Levinson said. in a recent interview.

The first episode will air on June 4, but the first two episodes aired at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week and it’s safe to say they got a strong reaction.
A New York Times reporter said watching the episodes was like going on an adventure on the Pornhub website, and Lily Rose-Depp’s nipples were the centerpiece.
