Washington: US President Joe Biden’s administration has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi on an official state visit next month as part of a far-reaching strategy despite “some current challenges” in the bilateral relationship. This is the belief of a well-known expert on India related matters. Prime Minister Modi will make his first state visit to the US in June at the invitation of Biden and US First Lady Jill Biden. Biden and the First Lady will host Modi for a state dinner on June 22. Rick Rosso, senior advisor and president of US-India Policy Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said, “It’s wonderful to see (Prime Minister Modi being invited on an official state visit).”

He said that the situation regarding India in America is a bit challenging. He said, ‘One of the reasons for this is India’s avoidance of taking a tough stand regarding Russia’s attack on Ukraine. It became a defining moment for many in America, but not so much for the Biden administration. He has decided to take this step as part of a long-term strategy. Rosso said that the Biden administration realizes that the strategic importance of these relations is India’s deepening commercial relations with the US.

He said that ‘amid China’s growing influence, partnership with the US in some more dangerous areas is important. So, at the top level, it is an indication that we are ready to move forward despite some challenges and some headwinds on Russia and other issues. Is. You just participated in the Quad (Quadripartite Security Dialogue).” He said that relations between India and the US have improved under different administrations in the government of every party in the US. He said that the Biden administration wants to take these relations to a new level in both commerce and security.

Rosso said there are two issues that need to be worked on. One of these is the long waiting time for visa interviews in India and this problem has escalated in recent weeks, he said. This is affecting people-to-people relations.” Rosso said another area that needs to be worked on is the commercial front.
