Berlin police are investigating British musician Roger Waters, one of the founding members of rock band Pink Floyd. The reason for this was Waters’ appearance on stage in an image reminiscent of a Nazi uniform, writing Friday May 26, Bild tabloid.

Video footage of the speech in question job on Twitter, the American organization StopAntisemitism, dedicated to the fight against antisemitism. It shows that Waters appeared before the public in Berlin in a black raincoat, he wore sunglasses, a red bandage was on his arm. The musician also had a model rifle, from which he imitated shooting.

As noted by the publication, in this scene there was a reference to the film “The Wall” (1982) directed by Alan Parker, which was filmed from Waters’ script based on the album The Wall. According to the plot, the hero of the film, Pink, at some point, under the influence of drugs, perceives the concert as a Nazi rally, and himself as the Führer.

Berlin police have opened an investigation, suspecting Waters of inciting ethnic hatred, police spokesman Martin Hallweg told the publication.

As Bild noted, Waters’ performance has already drawn criticism in Israel. They paid attention, among other things, to the fact that during the concert the name of the victim of Nazism, Anne Frank, appeared on the screen in large letters. Along with it came the name of Shirin Abu Akle, a Palestinian-American journalist who died in May last year while covering an Israeli military operation in the West Bank.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry accused the musician of “tarnishing the memory of Anne Frank and the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust”. Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon on Twitter Express the view that Waters “wants to compare Israel to the Nazis”.

79-year-old Waters gigs in Germany called criticism and concern from the Jewish community, as the musician has repeatedly been accused of anti-Semitism. In particular, at one of the concerts, Waters previously used an inflatable pig with a Star of David.
