The representative of the German Foreign Ministry said that they were diplomats, teachers and employees of cultural institutions. According to her, this will lead to a “significant reduction” of the German presence “in all areas in Russia”. Berlin will introduce a similar limit on the number of Russian officials in Germany, the spokeswoman added.
How writing TASS, Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing sources, said the number of employees of German institutions in Russia will be limited to 350 people. Among those who will leave the Russian Federation will be employees of the Goethe Cultural Center (Goethe Institute).
April 22 Russian Foreign Ministry declared that Germany has decided on the mass expulsion of Russian diplomats.
“We strongly condemn these actions by Berlin, which continues to defiantly destroy the entire Russian-German relationship, including its diplomatic dimension,” the foreign ministry added.
Moscow noted that it had decided to mirror the expulsion of German diplomats and to significantly limit the maximum number of employees of German diplomatic missions.
