“There is no alternative.” The State Duma does not plan to abandon Apple-made smartphones

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications Alexander Yushchenko told Russian media that he uses the iPhone because he does not there is no Russian-made alternative. Earlier, the FSB said it uncovered an “intelligence campaign by US intelligence agencies using” Apple smartphones.

“I use an iPhone. But I will tell you why I use the iPhone. Because today there is no alternative to our manufacturer in principle. Of course, I would use our ( smartphone),” Yushchenko told Russian media.

He pointed out that in telephone conversations he does not transmit “even internal party secrets”, as he considers everything he says on the telephone to be open information.

Yushchenko added that we live in a technological age in which everything is absolutely transparent, and according to “the number of secret conversations that each person has on the phone, he should know how much he can use an American gadget”.

“But on the other hand, we don’t have our smartphone as such, even though we talked about it many years ago, but in the end, apart from the photo, we didn’t get anything, like with an electric car. Therefore, as far as I’m concerned, I never talk on the phone even when it comes to internal party secrets, so every word I say on the phone is open information. But it’s my personal specificity of work,” he said.

There are no initiatives to abandon American Apple-made smartphones in the State Duma: everyone who wanted to abandon iPhone use has already done so, Yushchenko added.

“Employees who hold state secrets and who provide security for the country, especially the FSB, foreign intelligence, as far as I know, took a long time ago (the decision to abandon the iPhone). As far as I know, there is an internal order of the presidential administration on domestic policy – they themselves refused to use the iPhone. This is the internal regulation of any organization that makes such a decision, “said he concluded.

On the eve of the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Digital Development Andrey Zarenin, speaking at the VIII annual conference “Digital Industry of Industrial Russia” (CIPR-2023) in Nizhny Novgorod, he criticized the Russian smartphone with the system of Aurora operation. He said he had a phone produced in the country, but it was impossible to use it at this stage, including in the business segment.
