In less than a year, 152 criminal cases have been opened in Russia for “discrediting” the Russian military and “false” about the armed forces. On this subject reported in an interview with TASS, the head of the investigative committee, Alexandra Bastrykin.
In 152 criminal cases, 136 people were prosecuted. 53 cases have been submitted to the court, 16 verdicts have already been rendered.
“The punishment for these acts is really very severe. But such an approach is time-driven, and many clearly underestimate the social danger of such crimes. After all, false information about the actions of the armed forces can harm not only specific citizens, but also the interests of the state, public security,” Bastrykin said.
Administrative and penal articles on “discredit” the Russian army and “fake” on the armed forces appeared in the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code shortly after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. The first convicted under the article about “forgery” was Moscow city deputy Alexei Gorinov. In July, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. In December, politician Ilya Yashin* was sentenced to 8½ years in prison under the same article.
On February 15, the Leninsky district court in Barnaul sentenced RusNews journalist Maria Ponomarenko to six years in prison in the case of “tricks” on the Russian army.
