According to the outlet, a senior US official and a congressional official – their names were not given – said the drone strikes appeared to target the alleged residences of Russian intelligence officers in Moscow.
At least one of the apartment buildings hit by the drones is believed to be linked to Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Strider Technologies, a Utah-based start-up specializing in open-source strategic intelligence, told the channel.
The channel says it is unclear whether the attack damaged the home of an SVR staff member or injured Russian intelligence agents.
“It wasn’t a random attack,” said Eric Levesque, co-founder of Strider Technologies.
Drone raid on the Moscow region
The drone attack on the Moscow region took place last week, on May 30. According to the authorities and the commission of inquiry, there were no casualties or serious injuries as a result of the attack, several buildings were damaged. Shot telegram channel writing that drones hit residential buildings on Leninsky Prospekt, Profsoyuznaya Street and Atlasova Street, and also claimed that 32 UAVs participated in the attack.
The Russian Ministry of Defense later said that a total of “eight aircraft-like unmanned aerial vehicles” were involved, they were “hit”. The Defense Ministry said the Kyiv regime was behind the “terror attack”.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian agencies, regional authorities and the air defense system “worked well” during the attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the drone attack was a response to the Russian armed forces’ strike on Ukraine’s military intelligence headquarters.
Ukraine denies any involvement in the incident. Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the Ukrainian president’s chief of staff, said Kyiv had no “direct connection” to the attack, but was “watching with pleasure”.
